i accepted that we weren't go to get all the answers i wanted by the end, like the numbers and ann Arbor etc, but what really really bugs me is the writers saying "its all about the characters"
OK so the plane that took off at the end lets look at that.

Richard - over 400 years old
Claire - was on 815 that crashed. everyone but the oceanic 6 was declared dead
Sawyer - same problem as claire
Kate - was not allowed to leave the US but did.
Miles - like his character he probably wasn't missed by anyone but he did disappear in 2004
Lapidus - probably be ok.

So there all on a JUMBO JET that has too land somewhere and it does with three quarters of its original passengers missing "and hey" some of the people that are on it now were on another flight that disappeared (815)

And no one would ask any questions?
is that closure for all our beloved characters?
i think not.
people that say it was a great ending really don't have a clue.

Rant over

Dharma=god of righteousness.
Accompanies King Yudisthira to heaven's gate ... in the form of a dog. The king won't abandon the dog even if heaven is to be denied him as a result.
Vincent is lying beside Jack at the end. Jack is at one with himself and others because he does not turn away.

Now that we have seen the finale . . .
In the long history of the island, were Hugo and Ben #1 and #2 in direct line with "The Prisoner" mythology? Seems that each #1 gets to make decisions. Jacob let no one leave. Hugo will help people go home (Desmond). Perhaps another #1 sublet the island to The Village. Just thinking.

Interesting stuff. Haven't finished reviewing everything in the archives yet but I thought I'd suggest another candidate for your collection of real life Dharma Initiatives: The New Alchemy Institute (John Todd, Nancy Jack Todd) originating in the early 1970s on Cape Cod. Here are a couple of related links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Alchemy_Institute

http://www.oceanarks.org/

http://www.thegreencenter.net/

I first learned of them back in the early 1980s from an article in the Cousteau Almanac (out of print but may be able to find one on eBay). NAI's purpose was to blend the best of both nature and technology to develop sustainable, self-sufficient, eco-sensitive solutions to support human existence.
